Working hours in the Naval Service need to be addressed in order to robustly address the recruitment crisis

Naval service members work up to 90 hours a week at sea and have no set working week

Pay and conditions have been improved after a long campaign as personnel numbers were so depleted that it was having an impact on the number of ships that could be crewed

PDForra president Mark Keane, who is based at Haulbowline, told RedFM News that the Naval Service is competing directly with private business and people expect more from their employers

"We need to see continued investment in Haulbowline, we need to see the basic structures put in place the same that you would see in any college or workplace like a canteen or a recreational space.  We are supposed to reflect the society that we serve, for that to happen we have to become inclusive, we have to become more flexible in our work practices we need a work/life balance and people demand it now"
